Connie and I were close friends in high school and beyond. We attended one another's weddings and saw one another at Christmas or in Ypsilanti. She loved to decorate and celebrate the Christmas holidays. The last time I saw Connie was in August at Heritage Festival here in Ypsilanti. We both boarded the bus and caught up for the past year. Connie had been named Top Teacher by her students. I was still enjoying my teaching at YHS. By December or January, my sister called me and told me to sit down. Connie had passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Her sister told me later that she couldn't move at all before her passing. I remember her mother in a wheel chair, but I never imagined that she could be walking fine in August and pass away only a few months later. Carolyn Lucado Griffin
